Description

Floating on a sea of green
With a swishing, swaying flow,
Sailing 'midst the viridian spray,
Sliding to and fro.
Take would I them for serpents
Were they not apon the land,
Oh Kirkwir - prank of nature
That I did not understand.

The Kirkwir, one of the Feian wights. This particular creature first appears in The Trader's Apprentice

It's body structure is part camel, part horse, part serpent, part girraffe. Frankenstein wight, whut?

To note, despite having the appearance of a scaled neck, the Kirkwir is a mammal, and does not actually have scales at all. What it does have on its neck are overlapping glassy plates very much like fingernails but far softer. They are irridescent, and give the impression of scales.

I actually drew this a really long time ago, but I was a little bored and wanting to colour something so I broke out them pencils and added some life to it.

In the interests of honesty it should be noted that I wish I'd actually used the greys for its body - the kirkwir in the actual artwork is brown, but the scan completely massacred the colour and the body was affected the worst. I altered the hue of the body to take away the garishness (which is the only alteration I've made digitally) by turning it blue-grey, and I actually think the blue-grey works better than the brown so... there you go (:

Have I mentioned how much I hate the sky in the background? I really hate how it came out. Why does everything look better on the paper and so AWFUL in the scan?

Anyway, thanks for viewing.

I love how colorful it is, despite all the features that make it seem like something to avoid.
