Andel and Mardhul. Not actually illustrating from the text this time; (GASP) just a random pic. Detail of the faces: [link]
I'm kinda proud of this one
I've been trying really hard to push my work forward and this is the result While I'm not 100% satisfied, and I know there are still many things I need to improve on here (yes, sorry that the grass in the background is a bit bland. I shouldn't leave the things I don't like to do until last XD ) but I'm very happy with how this came out.
Rocks, running water, fur and human skin are the four things I find most tedious and difficult to do, and for some inscrutable reason my brain decided that all four at once was a freaking awesome idea.
For once, I'm gonna have to go with my masochistic brain on this one; despite the concoction, I really enjoyed working on this. It was a huge learning curve.
Many, many huge thanks go to `celticdreams for the running crit while I was working on this, she made the difference between okay and even better than okay Used a couple of my own refs for the background.
Wow, this is gorgeous. I love the texture in the fur, and the way you've done the water. @__@ The water falls, and the little bits splashing up, are great. Eee. <3
That would probably be one of the comments I've ever posted on dA, but it's lazy and only points out something obvious, haha.
As to your thing with water/skin/rocks/grass/fur, I think they're fine. Honestly, I think the grass would look more like that so close to a streaming river anyway, because of the precipitation. You know--it'd look more wet/mossy, like it does in the picture? Your skin texture is fine, as far as I'm concerned, and Mardhul's fur is what caught my attention, because it looks really natural and eye-catching. Plus, I reallyl ike how shiny her eyes are.
As to the rocks and water, I think they're fine too, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about them. Onet hing that strikes me kinda odd is how calm the water near Andel's feet are, but I can't really comment on that because I can't judge whether or not the waterfall is fast-running or not. It looks fine, of course (and completely natural,) but it just caught my eye for that reason.
I really like this piece. I think you beat yourself up too much over the little things, but most artists do. I do the same with my writing, so I guess it's just a perfectionist thing we all have in common.
This'd make an awesome print. *hint hint* I couldn't buy it now, but I bet it'd look awesome in gloss.
hahahaha that nipple was one of the hardest things in the entire pic I swear XDDD And it still doesn't look right to me hahah!
Ahh thanks so much ^-^ I'm glad it came out looking good; I think I'm seeing a lot of flaws in it for how long I've been staring at it for haa!
Yeah, I know what you mean; I'll prolly go back and add some extra splash marks to the area a little later when I get a chance. I wasn't sure how to go about texturing the water to make it look like it opened out into a sort of pool-stream-thing ;;
And yeeeeeah, I think I'm about as much of a perfectionist with my writing as I am with my art, if not more XD I simply can't look at work without touching it. I need to learn to leave stuff marked 'finished' alone once in a while, otherwise I'll never end up doing anything with it XD
Thank you so muchly I think I spent aaaaaages trying to find a technique that worked for the fur which didn't take forever (cos I have a bad hand ;; I can't work for too long at once) so I'm reeeeally glad folks think it came out looking good
Lawl.
*dies*

Ahaha, I'm considering it!
Ah well. At least I care.
the fur looks so soft and I wish I could draw water like that 8|
Amazing job~
